Obituary for Delbert Ronald "Ronnie" Brewer

Delbert Ronald "Ronnie" Brewer
–Delbert Ronald Brewer passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at the age of 76.
Ronnie was born in Rock Hill to the late Charlie Howard and Kate Shaw Brewer.
He retired in 1999 from Continental General Tire Company after 35 years working in several departments of the tire production plant. He then worked for 5 more years with US Food Service.
Ronnie loved many sports activities, as umpire and coach in church-league softball and basketball, including women’s and youth teams, as well as being a gifted player himself. Very early, he was part of the Golden Gloves boxing competition and a high school football player, leading him to later officiate Gray-Y, PeeWee and High School football games. Bowling was a hobby which he enjoyed throughout his life, until his health began to decline. The same gentle yet determined and encouraging spirit which enable Ronnie to bring sports teams to championships enabled him to fight for many years the ravages of emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis.
Ronnie was proud to have served his Country in the US Navy, and was a devoted fan of USC Gamecocks. His strength and faith were formed and strengthened through affiliation with churches where he served over the years: Cornerstone UMC, NewKirk Baptist, College Park Baptist, and Northside Baptist.
Ronnie is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Diane Duncan Brewer; his children Brad Brewer, Todd Brewer (Angel), and Scott Brewer (Glenda); his step-children April B. Redmon (A.J.), Derrick Burgess (Christy) and Duane Burgess; his grandchildren, Jesse, Dustin and Caitlyn Brewer; Ashley Haller; Mathan & Avery Brewer; his step-grandchildren, Saundra Kandler, Christina Grose, Jessica Beck, Natalie & Kameron Burgess, & Taylor Andrews; as well as 1 great-granddaughter, Harper; and 9 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother, Don; and is survived by sister, Sarah Frances Robichaud, and brothers Richard Alton Brewer and Danny Brewer.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., after visitation with family and friends at 1:00 p.m., at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2697 Herlong Ave., Rock Hill, SC, 29732. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
